Silence. Alexander stood among the silence, completely unmoving as the few remaining monsters made their way about the city. Most had fled from the chaos or had been killed by the Ultima or Holy as it tore through their ranks. The brave few who suck around would not have found food unless they turned on each other. There were no people. The citizens had all been killed as far as the casual observer could tell, and the garrison of monks Alexander had spotted either fled the city or died at some point.

Buildings crumbled even still, giving way long after the devastation that had weakened them. The mass of pyreflies that composed the people of Bevelle had long since parted or become fiends and run off. A sort of ironic war between the fiends of the fallen and the monsters from the Cry had broken out briefly before the fights had broken off and they’d all run for the forest. Now the forest contained sinspawn, monsters, fiends, and creatures of the mist. One needn’t guess at the virulent nature of the ecosystem this would make for.

A spark. Alexander had recharged, and his senses returned dully to him. Had his hearing been clear to begin with, though, the silence would still be deafening. His sight returned, much to his chagrin. The sight of the city stirred no desire in him to be conscious, but that didn’t stop it from continuing. Touch next, even more unfortunately, returned. Had he a sense of pain he would have been howling in it at the moment, but as it was he simply had trouble moving properly. Alexander had no senses of taste or smell, but his less mundane senses returned to him in short order. He could sense little to no life in the city, nor could he sense any nearby powerful evil or good. Rationality then, finally, returned to him. He could once again think complex thoughts, and Alexander’s thoughts went first to Tidus, his charge and partner. Gone.

How? It was impossible. Tidus was right there inside of Alexander when he’d fallen unconscious. There was no way in or out of Alexander unless he himself allowed it or he was forcibly cracked open. Alexander felt no breaches in his walls, and so only one option remained. Searching Tidus’ memories, Alexander confirmed his fear as he found them to be gone. He still remembered what he’d read from Tidus’ mind, but the database was gone. Tidus was simply gone. He’d vanished from the face of the world. Tidus had been absorbed back into time.

Xenos!” Alexander shouted in a rage at the sky as his castle state vanished in a quick flash of light; his angelic knight form once again gracing the world. Tidus had been reabsorbed into time by this sick world. It could probably happen to anyone at any time. “No!” He screamed in righteous fury. This was not how the world was supposed to work. This level of chaos was not permissible. People did not up and vanish into thin air. There were rules for existence and an order that was supposed to be followed. It was supposed to be followed by everything and everyone, not applying most of the time to most things.

“No! I refuse to accept this!” Alexander shouted adamantly at all creation. “I refuse to allow this! There will be order!” He yelled, stomping his foot and drawing his sword. This was a completely unacceptable existence. Order needed to be restored to the world for anything to flourish properly. For the good of everything, Alexander would stop the chaos from spreading and restore order to the world. He didn’t know how at the moment, but he would. For all things he would have to take this charge upon himself.

No, not himself. Not alone. Alexander had allies. “Odin!” The Esper called to his brother in arms. “Odin!” He called again to no avail. Lost to whatever foul pandemonium took Tidus, it seemed. “Rinoa! Auron!” He continued, not hearing any immediate responses. They were gone. They were all gone.

“No…” The knight sobbed, falling to his knees. Everyone had been lost, and whether it was the Cry or the chaos that had taken them didn’t matter. What mattered was that he was alone now. He had no allies to speak of at the moment. Never one to succumb to sadness, however, hope sprang eternal in Alexander, and he did recall the people among the city who had left. The saviour Cloud had left the city with champions Tifa, Vivi, and Vincent. The hero Setzer had been spotted with Zack, may he rest in peace, and the scum of Shinra; he didn’t recall them among the fighting near the end. St. Gainsborough was out there with poor Squall, along with The Defiler and his pet newt Tiamat.

Oh yes, he had allies. He would seek them out and band them together, and he would punish the Turk and rend Sephiroth when the time was right. His first concern was justice for the lowest of evils, however. Xenos. Xenos was to be charged with all of these crimes against order and righteousness. The loss of a good many heroes, the deaths of everyone in Bevelle, the corruption of the saviour of the eighth realm, the kidnapping of St. Gainsborough, and countless other wrongs were all on Xenos’ head. Justice would be served with the sentence of death and spiritual lockdown. It was the highest punishment Alexander was allowed to deliver, wherein the monster was slaughtered and their life essence sealed in a crystal to prevent rebirth or undeath. It was too good for Xenos, but it was his sentence nonetheless.

Interrupting his fuming, a distant and familiar hum took hold of Alexander’s ears. An airship from the sixth... It was Setzer! It had to have been!

Dashing for the sound with all his might, Alexander tried and failed to sprout wings several times to quicken his pace. Apparently he was still drained from the Holy spell, and would take some time to recharge completely. Finally reaching the Falcon just before it took off, Alexander grabbed a hanging rope as the ship began hovering above the ground. Climbing as quickly as he could, Alexander collapsed on the deck as he hoisted himself over the railing.

“Setzer…” He called out to nowhere in particular, raising his arm as though reaching out to someone. He was so drained he could barely stand. Instead choosing to lay there and recharge, Alexander merely repeated Setzer’s name several times before halting movement altogether. He hadn’t lost consciousness, but he would want to stave off moving for a couple minutes if he was to regain his strength.

((Forced ending? You betcha!

Auron, if you’re still around then Alex was too busy freaking out to hear you respond or something. Sorry. Feel free to follow me!))

A drained energy seemed to creep over his awareness. Something had gone terribly wrong, and he remembered nothing of the events. He remembered attempting to follow the saddled knight, and the woman riding with him, all the while as he made his way to the winged castle. Nothing seemed real. Bevelle was more than a mess. More than wreckage. It was Zanarkand all over again. Almost nothing stood. No one breathed. Pyreflies were everywhere.

It was death.

There was no better way to describe the turmoil. Shunning the fear that slowly began to build, he remained calm. Cool and collected would keep him from losing his mind over this brutality. No fear should stop him.

"Rinoa! Auron!" he heard a voice call.

Who knew his name? He hadn't seen anyone he recognised...and to him, it seemed no one else could have survived that. He had only now realised why he had failed to stand up. A fragment of a wall was attempting to crush him under it's weight. But hearing his name gave him the needed push, to force himself up, narrowly avoiding having his hand removed as it fell back down, just after he managed to unwedge his katana from it's locked position by his side.

"I am alive." he said back, not knowing who the voice belonged to as he looked around for the reason behind the voice.

He soon came upon the appearance of a blindingly white and gold wearing warrior, resting a tremendous blade by his side. He looked like he was crying. Tears would be shed. But Auron sensed no time for that now. They needed to get out of there. And at a moment's notice, he watched as the warrior rose. He seemed to have heard something, and began to sprint off.

"Wait." he called out after him, running to try and keep pace. He was mere strides behind, and only then noticed the whir of the airship before him. But it was much unlike the one the Al Bhed had uncovered. He watched as the warrior leapt, clinging onto a rope just before it began it's take off.

With mere moments to spare, Auron mimicked him, catching another rope, and holding tightly with the one hand, as he replaced his katana in it's scabbard on his back. Grabing hold with his now free sword arm, he began a hand-over-hand approach, to climb the blasted thing.

He hadn't the energy remaining for that sprint. Yet here he was, using up more energy than he thought he could muster. It was strenuous, especially after a fight, a sprint and whatever it was that had made him feel like all of his usual strength had been drained.

"Ugh." he grunted, as he nearly slipped.

A few more pulls and he'd reach the ledge. A few more. Five more. Four. Three. Two, and then with a final heave, he hoisted himself up onto the ledge, puffing from the work-out. It was strange. He finally arrived, and the only one on the platform was the same warrior he had followed. What had made him follow this unnamed vagabond though? He knew nothing of who he was, nor his name...not only that, but he just seemed generally out of place.

Taking a couple weak steps toward this semi-lifeless being, before collapsing from the strain of effort, he looked toward him, with one eye, barren of all real thought, and merely asked, above his voice repeating the same word;

"Who...are you?" with one final groan, he collapsed. All energy within him extinguished. He had fallen into a state of unconsciousness.

The only thought in his mind in his final conscious moment was his question.
