Originally, a person could only have two Careers equipped, but that was so that certain carrot-tops (cough WAKKA) wouldn't abuse the system. Most of the Job Classes were designed so that WAKKA couldn't abuse it.
For those of you not in the know, Wakka used to be an admin and, among other, more serious things, he accepted a Sora. You know... Kingdom Hearts. We had HEARTLESS on the Falcon. But Sora was his friend, and this friend didn't have to play by the rules like the rest of us because Wakka was on the inside. SO now, he's the butt of several of our oldfag jokes. Him and No Claw Vincent.
Anyway, since he's no longer an issue, and no one seems to be that... yeah... Any and all abilities can be equipped. The instant this is abused, however, I'll turn it back to the original two.
As far as plot devices, I think I'm the only one who actually *plays* gaining abilities. However, it was a very big deal when I mastered White Mage since HOLY is the final ability. It was a really awesome battle underground with Sphinxar/ara/aga in which Aerith and Xenos had to face a loved one who died; face them, realize that this was just an illusion, then DESTROY that loved one. When Sphinxaga was defeated, Aerith got the White Materia and Xenos got a lock of Ultimecia's hair (part of his braid) and the Rune. Jess, you were under there, too, but I can't remember what happened with you...

Interesting turn of events for the game, and it's nice to know that right now we can access the vast majority of our abilities (that makes it easier to mix and match materia). Now, you wouldn't happen to have a copy of the battle on hand would you?

I totally thought I had posted this earlier... It's around his neck. XD And, no, Tseng. I'm pretty sure we lost it when a big chunk of our content disappeared (didn't we decide that Wakka did that, too?)

Well, nobody was fessing up and Wakka was a jackass. It seemed reasonable.
What does the Rune do? >.>

It's Ultimecia's rune that Xenos gave to her before she went batshit crazy. It has no power, but much nostalgia.

Nostalgia in and of itself can be a power in and of itself leading brave men to do foolish things and foolish men to acts of ambition a mortal should never reach for.

I think we decided that Cait was responsible for that deletion mess. Or maybe it was Wakka. I try to block all memories of him from my mind. I just remember the many AIM chats about it and some bickering in the admin boards. Also: Underground battle, Squall probably saw Rinoa. Yeah, in fact, yeah, but he was like, "Arrrrrrgh angst, arrrgh I am not going to be tricked by this dirty jerk."

Okay, another qustion about the Bard/Dancer class as I realized I forgot to clarify something. If you pick powers from one can you pick powers from the other or do you need to select it as a completely different class once you are done mastering the entire Class Tree?

I think your base class stays the same, although you do need to go through each branch of the class tree in order, If I'm not mistaken.
Which is why I haven't put AP into finishing Black Mage or Starting white mage. Not to mention I'm actually trying to gain the materia too ( stupid Break Materia I need for Flare. D= )
I could be wrong, though.

True, but Dancer and Bard are both the base class for the tree which has me a little confused because I came up with a way to make Dances Weapon Katas for Tseng (seeing as I think it would be cool for him as a Turk) in addition to realizing that I wanted Bard parts for speeches and the Nameless Dance as a Limit Break (I think it would make a great Gun Kata lvl 1 Limit).

Well, in that case, choose whichever name suits you best, but if BOTH are the base class for the same branch, you'll have the abilities of both; Or, whichever abilities you put AP down for, anyway.

Huh, really? That's cool, I appreciate the help with this little bit and if there's anything I do wrong when picking the powers I'll be more than happy to change where the AP is spent.

:sigh: I need to re-spec. My AP and abilities come from a time when Geomancer was part of the White Mage line. It's come in handy, but it breaks rules...

Heh, the White Mage class and Geomancer (thus Black Mage) lines both look pretty cool though I just noticed the significant drop in certain Stat ratings that I kind of personally want to avoid. Probably going to keep me pushing towards the path of Thief (though I really did like Knight later down the road along with Black Mage possibly).
Oh the dilemna of stats vs. powers.
