RAR RAR! So, yeah, after an extended absence caused by many fanboys/girls/gaming companies raping and pillaging FFVII, I've returned. Part of my problem was the incredible fanbase. You know, the people who up until pre-AC laughed at people who liked VII because of it's dated graphics etc... now they're the ones on the bandwagon. Those of you who know me irl know that I avoid what's rabidly popular like the plague. Chobits, Naruto, Bleach, Deathnote... I have to wait until the fanbase dies down, or get hooked on my own (Kingdom Hearts is a good example of this).
Another reason I've been absent is because I've lost my music muse. Srsly, I write and draw to music. But lately, I've gotten to where I'm tired of my usual RP soundtrack. Today, I was writing to Adiemus (which is awesome, don't get me wrong). But the number one Ace up my sleeve happens to be Stand My Ground by Within Temptation. Oddly enough, I wasn't listening to it while writing, but my post ended up with the same theme.
ANYWAY, the point of the thread. Post your character's theme music. What gets you in character? What single song best summarizes what your character is about.
Mine is Stand My Ground

That video was pretty damn cool. Good choice. I mocked people who liked FFVII, but only out of bitterness that it was more popular than FFVIII and FFVI. I'm petty like that. Mo' like GAYphiroth, m i rite? ...*is pelted with rocks* But seriously, let's see... For those who dislike Alexander, his attitude, or his motives, Witch Hunt best describes him. I'll come up with another one later that describes him from a more positive point of view.

I wish that it were that simple for me; I go through whole playlists just to write a single post. I often I don't even know which song will set me going until it happens, and in four to eight minutes I'll have written more than I had in the last half-hour or more. But I guess if I were to pick a song that I identify with Fujin, it'd be Tsukiko Amano's "Kakan." I can't find a clip of an actual performance or PV, but someone made a slideshow AMV using the song, so here's that.

Well, it's kind of sad, but my Xenos music has stayed mostly the same since I solidified his character about half a year ago. I'd have to say that Take me Away by Ra is one of my biggest inspirations. While Within Temptation is another of my major inspirations, I'd have to say that "Our Solemn Hour" is my Xenos War music and "Memories" is kind of flash back music... like from Ulti's pov.... I'm really wierd when it comes to getting into character....

I think I’m a bit like Fujin in that I have a whole playlist dedicated to Squall. Hard to find one song that pins him down exactly. So there’s a list. ... is there ever a list.
One of my favourites though is Rebirthing by Skillet. I found one with a FFVIII FMV even. …
I could so spam this comment with song after song. ; :resists urge to do so:

Hey, Xen. I think you forgot one. I think you'll like the video >3
Complete with lyrics, Alex... for your BAWW-DON'T-HAVE-A-SOUND-CARD j/k
Oh, Squally.... you're the one who got us started on Within Temptation. We saw What Have You Done lyrics on one of your pics and we were like OMG AWESOME and downloaded (later purchased... we're pretty good pirates) Heart of Everything.
:sad face: My favorite VIII AMVs aren't on youtube...

You know what's really messed up though? If there even is a song that will actually get me started writing, it's rarely anything that I would associate with what I'm writing. I've put out some of my most depressing material while listening to music that's really upbeat or even downright saccharine. Just totally incongruent with what I'm doing. Of course, if I create a playlist around that idea, it won't work. I guess it goes to show that, no matter what you do, you can't force out material until it decides it wants to come out.

Oh man... It's terrible how easily the wrong music can ruin my mood. Most of the time, I listen to a single song on loop when I write so that I don't end up accidentally listening to something just slightly too upbeat. Y_Y It's really pathetic. I'd hate to see what would happen if I suddenly heard Guilty Gear music while writing Xenos. D: "Some DRY MARTINIS; CHICKS IN LAMBORGHINIS! Oh, Johnny Johnny, you know you're the only one-- Oh, Johnny Johnny you know it's been fun... "
Seriously. It'd be all like:
Xenos slid down from Tiamat's back and settled himself on the solid ground. He could hear Squall struggling with Aerith's limp weight, but he knew that the SeeD could handle it himself. Besides, he wanted to get to the pub before nightfall to see if he could find any ladies without whiskers he could hire for some quick jollies. The past few days had been so depressing and he just needed a distraction. "Squall," Xenos called over his shoulder as he dashed into town, "Take Aerith to the inn and get her taken care of. I'm going to go get schnockered."

Oh man, I knew we had a thread like this already but it is like, the very last thread on the very last page. Mmmmm, I dunno. For sheer crazyness, I have to go with "The Culling of the Fold" by The Decemberists. Oh Colin Meloy.
I don't have a playlist for Tia yet, but I think I still have the ones I made for Squall and Rinoa hanging around in my iTunes.

Geez...you guys have playlists? I just have random music playing...no, seriously.
When I write, I find that having music helps me to write, because it gets me thinking, thinking various degree's, various outlooks, aspects of situations, outcomes and hindsights. I can't just put one song down, listen to it, and write like a pro.
But, if anything, I gotta say; "Do You Call My Name" by 'Ra' often leaves me trail-blazing a story at thrice the speed. As for what helps me when I'm writing as Vincent...I haven't really any idea at present. I'll look into it...I guess. If people are interested, anyway.

Playlists for writing and RP is always a good thing for me though I don't have a specific playlist for Final Fantasy. However, I do have an entire file of music from Overclocked Remix I use to use to get into the mood and start the creative processes. The best two songs on the list is the remix of the opening theme done with an actual piano and the remix of the Turks theme done with overlays from the Sector 7 soundtrack.

When I RP, I write to whatever suits the mood of my character. Generally it has to be something instrumental or I get sidetracked, then I get pissed because my writing doesn't flow ;D The past...what...year-ish(?) I've been working on a ReTi fanfic. It's my first attempt at a fanfic; it's going decently, I think. Fujin and Alex both have seen it...so far they haven't screamed and tried to tear out their eyes (that they've told me, anyway). It's coming along slowly, but I never, ever listen to anything except Tifa's piano theme while I am working on it. I find it's easier to crawl into Tifa's head (since it's written from her perspective, mostly) while listening to her theme, rather than anything else. Maybe I shall share it with you guys someday. I may have to cut some parts out though, to make it suitable for the group ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

I'm always interested in seeing someone else's work when it comes to Fanfics. Everyone has such a unique spin on different characters and reasons for certain events coming together. If you're willing to share, I'd be more than happy to read it though I'm not quite sure what critiques I could make (afterall I'm a a Political Science graduate and we're not taught how to spell well ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) ). Though I'm curious what parts would need to be cut?

The dirty parts. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) Though I'm up to 17 or 18 (maybe more) pages now and there's yet to be anything honesty 'dirty'. But I did have a particular direction in mind when I started this. I am inching closer to it as time goes on ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I can cut those parts out if I end up posting it to the board though, so I can get some feedback. I did have one place I was intending to contribute it to, so I could see what sort of reception it got. For these particular pieces I've been told I am a very good writer, but I figured I'd put up and see if it was justifiably complimentary, or if I should shut up and stop writing lol.

Oh, Vincent... I've got a great song for him. I'm working on a pic (that's still in my head) to Ra's "Say You Will" It's great... until the ending...
"Say you will/ Love what you betray"
:gushes:
But it's at 3:09 (roughly) where he says "Did you think I'd let you do that to me?" that the Vincent illusion is lost. :sigh: I have a whole playlist on iTunes dedicated just to Vince.. and it's full of crap like H.I.M. and Gackt... On that note, does anyone think it's strange that Redemption is THE Vincent song (best thing that came out of Durr)... but it's sung by Genesis? I mean, what part of "Your kind and gentle words can't heal me now, This body's only dedicated to the never ending fight." isn't Vincent?
Only slightly related, but I've got a ShinRa playlist... and it's got mostly OST... but it's got Damage, Inc. Holy crap, Turks everywhere!
I wanted to make an AMV to this years ago... but there's not enough ShinRa footage, not without imaginary cutscenes from Before Crisis. Anyway, it's kinda like the mafia or a gang or something like that... which is perfect. Besides... Damage, Inc... ShinRa, Inc. You understand where my brain went here, right?
...it took me forever... but I just found something that's been bothering me. Everyone at least knows of Led Zeppelin, yes? How about Kashmir? Even if you don't know it, you have probably heard it. Anyway... starting at the 7:00 mark, listen. Then listen to the ShinRa Company track. I know I was like OMGWTFBBQ when I heard it (in my dad's car... and I remember exactly where I was on the road). Do you know how frustrating it is to describe musical similarities with a minimal musical background? RAR! In this thread, Balamb Garden... it's called Ami on the Piano CD... anyway... another similarity at 2:43 to Stevie Nick's "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You" at 1:01
All of these times are according to my mp3s except for Kashmir that I had to find on youtube.
