Hi all! I’m (tentatively!)applying for Squall. I can be contacted at navras101@gmail.com
Should I be picking a desired job class btw? Squall already has one, right? Er... if not, I’d go with knight, because it just makes sense for him.
And my application follows.
Squall always wore black.
It was not for aesthetics as some of his fellow students might have believed. Squall had heard the girl’s speculative whispers. He had always ignored them, though it did not mean he could not hear them as they moved from distraction to distraction with hardly a care for the matters surrounding them.
Squall knew that if he had the ability to become selectively deaf upon command, he would have called upon it often concerning some of his fellow Garden classmates
He did not wear black for comfort, though this was imperative in the field. Any SeeD worth their rank would know that.
The belts at his hips were not accessories for ornament; not only did they bear his Gunblade but Squall had used them more than once to help stem a poison flow when running low on Cures.
His jacket had a fur lined collar but not because it looked good- Squall did not care for ‘looked good’, only ‘efficient’- but because fur provided heat and leather retained heat and both could be valuable enough to mean the difference between living and dying.
The only ornament Squall had was on the end of the chain that sat about his neck. The only reason he did not remove it was because it was a weight he was accustomed to and removing it might distract him when he could not afford such a distraction.
At least, this was what Squall told himself.
Squall wore black because blood did not show up against black. To him it was that simple.
There was no darker hue than black. Squall was efficient and Squall was observant. He was aware that he might be needed to kill on a mission, to walk the streets after as though it never happened and he knew that if he wore black and the blood did not show then chances were, no one would look at him twice.
For Squall it was important that no one look at him twice.
So Squall wore black. Squall gleaned a measure of competence when not on missions by establishing a routine. Squall oiled his Gunblade the same time every morning like clockwork, and took considerate care of his weapon because if he had to liken it to anything he could call it a companion. His right arm.
Gunblades could not speak of course, but maybe that was just another reason Squall would call it that. His revolver was what Squall attained to be. A good SeeD. An efficient weapon. It was what he thought every SeeD should strive toward.
The winged lion insignia gleamed up at him as he slid the dark cloth over the polished blade, a smooth motion well versed in practise.
It calmed him. Polishing the steel. This was another reason Squall liked his Gunblade. Not for the security it brought. His revolver had a case but Squall rarely used it, were he attacked in the night too much time would be spent fumbling with the latches, drawing his weapon free, and Squall knew that in the intern he could be dead. In the end, a weapon was only as capable as its wielder.
No, Squall had what he would call ‘an emotional attachment’ to his Gunblade, simply because Squall liked lions. He liked the notion of having one on his blade. He liked the idea of cleaving through the darkness with it and knowing that the lion would not judge him nor try to change what Squall wanted to be.
Squall could say if anyone were to ask him, that his Gunblade was his best friend.
But of course no one asked. Since Squall glowered at those who tried, and he always wore black. Apparently, amongst his peers, black was also a rather forbidding colour. People said that combined with his scowl it was a wonderful deterrent.
Squall knew that black was only efficient and not forbidding, but thought that if it stopped people from talking to him, well then, bonus.
(( I hope that’s okay. I’m so accustomed to RPing in the present tense – ‘is’ as opposed to ‘was’- that I wrote this bit that way first, and then realised my mistake and changed it. So if bits are off and this is weird… ah… it’s because I suck? Sorry if it is. ))
