Job: Figaro King
Secondary job: Thief
Appearance: Although one never would have guessed it possible when he was younger, Edgar now looks every bit the king that he was destined to be. Intelligent crystal blue eyes shine under the thin bangs of otherwise long blond hair, and a strong jawline adds a regal appearance to what would be a boyish face without. His hair is kept tied behind him by a pair of red cords that are woven through before tying to keep them from slipping down. He does, on occasion, let it loose though, and this "lion's mane" combined with his sturdy build has intimidated more than one imperial liaison out of questioning the king's loyalty.
Edgar, being what some might refer to as a "warrior king," can rarely be found in formal attire. More often he'll be seen in the machined plate armor unique to Figaro, designed by the king himself. The armor is composed of a lightweight mythril alloy and tailored to each individual using Figaro's advanced mechanical technology. The king's armor is coated in a protective evergreen paint that prevents the environmental damage typical to most metals. Across the lower back of the body armor are a pair of small grooves into which Edgar's Autocrossbow can be mounted for easy carrying. On his left hip he wears a mythril sword in a simple, dark blue scabbard. Although he wears a regal cape around the castle, he takes it off during battle so as not to interfere with the drawing of his Autocrossbow.
Good or Evil: Good, in spite of any vicious rumors one might hear.
Realm: Sixth
Race and Origin: Human, World of Balance
Age: 27 (sign is Leo)
Abilities: Steal Heart (he'd like to think so, anyway <_< )
History: Born alongside his twin brother Sabin to the royal family of Figaro, Edgar and his brother grew up as the crown princes of the kingdom. Obviously though, both of them could not inherit kingship, and before it could be decided which brother was the definite heir to the crown, their father died of illness. Both brothers, high-spirited and longing for their freedom, had little desire to rule, much less do so before having left their teens. As officials and law professionals fought over who would take the place of the deceased king, Sabin and Edgar took the matter into their own hands. From the highest tower of Castle Figaro, the brothers conspired to let fortune decide their fates in a coin toss. However, Edgar, feeling responsible for his brother, could not bare to see him restrained to the throne, and thus cheated himself out of freedom with a two-headed coin. Sabin, his freedom won and unaware of his brother's trick, distanced himself from the castle, not to be seen since.
The time after Edgar's ascension to the throne was, to say the least, a little turbulent. Although people were inherently loyal to the crown, the young king had yet to earn the respect of those under his rule. However, as a man of pride -both in himself and his late father- he took his role as king to heart, and carried the best interest of Figaro and its people at the front of his mind. Before long, his benevolence and care for his people became self-evident, as did the consideration he put into his decisions. However, a situation would soon arise that would challenge Edgar on every level, as a king and as a man.
After years of hard work to establish himself as king, Edgar was forced into a difficult situation. The imperial nation on the continent directly south of Figaro's shores had become increasingly militaristic, and was now beginning to flaunt its power. While Figaro Castle was itself a technological wonder, and produced feats of engineering not to be found anywhere else, Figaro as a country wasn't much more advanced than its neighbors, and could do little against the might of the Empire. In particular, the imperial weapons called "Magitek" were a force to be reckoned with, and all but guaranteed imperial victory on any battlefield. Edgar loathed the heavy-fisted Empire, and knew that his people shared the same sentiment. However, in order to preserve the safety of Figaro, her king would have to make a very unpopular decision.
To ally with the Empire would compromise every fiber of his moral being, but it was the only means by which he could protect his people. Every meeting with imperial diplomats layed a crushing weight on Edgar's heart as he felt the dignity stripped from within him. So bothered was the king that he was on the verge of nullifying his alliance with the Emperor when word of an anti-imperial group calling themselves the "Returners" reached him. In this, he saw a chance to redeem himself. There was no debate or objection when he decided to support the Returners in secret while maintaining Figaro's faux alliance. It was still a difficult position, but at least it was one he could live with.
However, before Edgar could see the imperial presence purged from Figaro, a strange event occurred. As a desert storm raged in the night, the sands seemed to change. Flashes of lightning illuminated the scene of golden sand melting into quicksilver, and the castle walls began to bend and warp in a scene that was wholly unnatural. Sharp winds carried the cries of birds and beasts never seen before. Everyone in the castle witnessed it, yet none had an explanation. As dawn drew near, the storm weakened, and the castle and desert seemed to slowly return to normal. By morning it looked as if nothing had ever happened. Yet at the same time, nothing quite felt the same. Uneasy, Edgar sent scouts in every direction to search for signs of the strange phenomena, but the stories they returned with made the night before seem normal by comparison.
