[I'm not big on overly wordy posts, so I'll keep this short. If, however, it is -too- short, by all means let me know and I'll fix it.]
With enemies like you, who needs friends? Fujin often thought while observing Squall Leonhart, Balamb Garden's favored son. At the time, she had no idea just how ironic that idea would become. It wasn't until Lunatic Pandora that she realized the state of things. The three of them had always held a certain amount of contempt for Squall, and at least part of it was simply because he was too honest for his own good. Always fair, always playing by the rules, never stepping out of line... Nobody was that good, and eventually it would catch up to him.
But that isn't the way it happened. Nothing ever seemed to set him back. And that day, on Esthar's monolithic super weapon, it hit her. As everything else swirled in chaos and confusion, that statuesque quality that she had always hated in Squall had served to keep him standing straight. The only one in the right that day was him, and because he had managed to remain on the right path through all of this, he was the only one who could set it right. Fujin released the girl she was keeping hostage and left some parting words for the man she had thought to be her truest friend. Now, everything was in the hands of the friend she had never counted on before. Only one person heard her last words before departing.
"Don't make me regret this, Squall Leonhart."
