So for those of us currently no connected with the central plot, I was curious about the question of original characters as they related to the NPCs we interact with. Is it possible for someone to include an original character in their posts as an antagonist? If the answer is no then is it possible for an unplayed canon character to be used as a personal antagonist?
It wouldn't be used for anything more than a long term opponent while I wait to be involved with other players (rather than as a way to incorporate new monsters of the week).

I don't believe we've ever had a long-term NPC. As such, I can't answer this one from experience. I also don't decide the rules, so I'll have to leave this once for Aerith.

I'll do my best to answer these in the most fair way. We did have a long term OGNPC, but that was many years ago and it was established back when I was still just a player. Since then, no.
Unless it's Thug #27, head thug of the Sector 3 Gang... No.
If you mean something like Hojo and Tseng don't get along, I wholly agree. However, this does not mean that you can play Hojo, control Hojo's staff/minions/mutations, or get into Hojo's bank account. Anything referring to Hojo should be very indirect at most, but flashbacks are alright as impressions rather than real instances. No cut to scene, just "Hojo was a real poo poo head that one day when he took Tseng's lunch money." Only not that far back, of course.
If you'd like to play with Midgar politics, please remember that unless there's someone playing them, they're not here. Rufus, Rude, Heidigger, etc... you can't get direct orders from them or interact in any way. Now... there are a lot of dudes with helmets - I mean nametags - running around. Oh, and I'm sure your phone works and Reno is on speed dial... number 3 or 4 if I'm not mistaken.

I totally had a post mostly written with pretty much the exact same content, but I had to go eat, and when I came back, I realized Aerith was a ninja. XD
