I've said it before and I'll say it again: the only thing I liked about X-2 was the battle system.
I <3 IX with a fiery passion, but ironically the worst part of it for me was the battle system. I mean, Trance? No thanks. On an aesthetic level, it looked crap. On a practical level, it sucked even more as you couldn't control when you used it. I'd always end up wasting my Trance on some pissant monster right before a big boss. IX should have learned from VII and VIII's example: VII's trouble was that the Limit option took away your option to attack. VIII's problem was that you had to be at a low level of HP to use it. IX thereofre should have mixed the two together. A meter like the Trance or Limit meters, but when it's full you can still attack. Pressing left on your D-Pad would bring up the Trance option.
Though yes, as Setzer said earlier, the game was easy enough as it is.

FFVIII's problem with limits was that being able to use them again and again made the game broken to the point where Zell can kill Omega Weapon in a handful of turns. XD
So you liked the Overdrive system, Kuja?

I'll have you people know that in teh short time between Advent Children and KH2, ol' Steve-o learned how to act. After he watched AC, I think his exact words were "I had no idea Cloud was such a badass." Watch Cloud in the first one, when he's sitting on the steps at the Colliseum... "I fell into the darkness and couldn't find the light." It sounds like poop. Now listen to any scene after he and Leon fight back to back. Much better, yes?

I liked the Overdrive system fine, but I wasn't 100% sure about the little actions you had to pull off to use them. Using the slots for Wakka's Overdrive was lame, but otherwise, it was okay. Could have been better, but it beat the heck out of Trance.
btw, I agree with what Aerith just said. His voice did improve, but I didn't have a problem with it before.

VII and VIII are and, as far as I can see, will always be my favorite. I've not yet played another FF I like near as well. Though XIII might, since they brought back a lot of the same crew that made VII and VIII.

My problem with recent FF games is Square's inability to choose between a medieval setting and a futuristic one. Come on, guys, it's one or the other.
That, and as Tifa stated earlier, voice acting. On the other hand, the one thing XII has that I loved beyond reason was NO RANDOM ENCOUNTERS. Random encounters are a horrible design flaw of ages past and it's time to move on. If there are any remakes of old VII, VIII or IX I'm praying that they design the game without them. [/rant]

Apparently FFXIII is going to be more futuristic than any Final Fantasy before it, which means it's going to have to beat out Esthar's technology at some point. Not that it really matters. It'll still have magic and fantasy stuff. I also read it's not going to have random battles.

Fantasy stuff and magic I can handle, it's the settings that bothered me in XII. The lack of random battles makes me happy though. Although I don't have a ps3. Anybody know if there is any word on it being released on the 360? Because my brother has one of those.

I believe they announced that FFXIII will not be a PS3 exclusive, but that might just mean it's also gonna be a PC game. After all, FFVII, FFVIII, and FFXI were also released for the PC.

I could handle it being a PC game.

I'm probably just going to crack down and buy a PS3 once FFXIII comes out and/or the PS3's price drops. My PC isn't strong enough to run a game like that.

Both parts were blasphemy, Alex. The idea of Square TOUCHING Nintendo is unforgivable. -shudder- I feel so dirty just knowing someone mentioned it.
